The most important energy system to train would be the Aerobic system. Research has shown that in three, 2 minute rounds with 1 minute intervals in between the rounds, the aerobic system contributes to approximately 66%. Both, Creatine Phosphate and Lactic acid systems are present but only contribute 30% (Creatine Phosphate) and 4% (Lactic Acid). The Aerobic system would be the most dominant because of all the sub-maximal efforts that is performed in Taekwondo. This would mostly be bouncing before attacking.
Seeing that the Aerobic system is the most important system in Taekwondo, you would want to improve it. When training the Aerobic system, you will be focusing mostly on the large muscle groups to combine with the cardiovascular system to supply a higher oxygen level in muscles. The more oxygen in the muscles means the resynthesis of ATP to be faster. Ways to train this system is continuous and circuit training.
Even though the Aerobic system is the most dominant, the ATP-PC and Lactic acid systems still play a part. Therefore, you will still need to train these systems to get the best results. Training these systems involves activities done in a short time but at a very high intensity. you wouldn't want to go below 85% of you predicted max heart rate to train these systems properly.
